Vernon Alfred Hopper

Vernon Alfred Hopper, 94 years of age, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026. Vernon was born October 7, 1931, in Mountain View, Arkansas to the late Jefferson Davis Hopper and Pearl Engles Hopper. He graduated from Mountain View High School and Arkansas University, in English Literature. He enlisted in the Army in the Signal Corp and Flight Training and married Gwendolyn Ingram in 1957. They lived overseas in Germany where their daughter Gay Lynn Hopper was born in 1960. They then moved stateside where Vernon continued his flight training and became a pilot and helicopter Instructor. He served 2 tours in Vietnam and retired in 1975 as a lieutenant colonel after serving 20 years. They then settled in Eufaula, Alabama to be on the lake. Vernon then worked for American Buildings Company for 22 years as a Quality Control Supervisor.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday, June 25, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Eufaula, Alabama with Dr. Ken Bush officiating and Chapman Funeral Home directing. The burial will follow at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Pansey, Alabama at 2 P.M. The visitation will be held prior to the service at 10 A.M.

Vernon’s hobbies were fishing and golfing. Mr. Hopper was a faithful member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed many close friendships with his Sunday School classmates, his American Buildings coworkers, and his Army friends.

Mr. Hopper is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his daughter: Gay Lynn Hopper, sister: Judy Stevens (Benny), brother: David Hopper (June), sisters in law: Gerry Womack (Bobby), Edna Ingram and Sylvia Ingram.
