Robert Earl “Bobby” Smith, 77, of Eufaula, Alabama, Springhill Community, died Monday, March 24, 2025, at his residence.
Born December 31, 1947, in Lake City, Florida, Mr. Smith was the son of Oran and Eva Lois Sauls Smith. Bobby was active in football, men’s softball, and he was the captain of the basketball team. He was voted most athletic. He graduated from Bell High School in Bell, Florida in 1965 where he served as President of the FFA. He was an avid NASCAR fan, and he loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He was a paratrooper in the United States Army. He spent his early life as a lineman journeyman and then twenty years on his farm, raising cattle, hay, and had pecan groves.
Survivors include his wife: Hallie Smith; 2 daughters: Shannon Smith (Matthew) Buzbee and Tonia Smith Kennedy; 6 grandchildren: Kelli (Brian), Dustin (Jenny), Darbi (Markell), Taylor, Hailey, Levi; 7 great grandchildren; 4 brothers: Bill Fontenot, Donnie Fontenot, Joe Fontenot, Wally Fontenot; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 11 A.M., in the Elmered Family Cemetery with Rev. Jim Gilboy officiating and Chapman Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Bell High School FFA or Athletic Program, 930 South Main St., Bell, Florida 32619.
