Paul Edward Hartzog

Paul Edward Hartzog, 76, of Clayton, Alabama, died Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at his residence.

            Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 11 A.M., at Adams Chapel Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Cox officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Chapman Funeral Home directing.  The visitation will be held prior to the service from 10A.M. until 11 A.M., at the church.  Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Adams Chapel Cemetery Fund c/o Bobbie Hartzog 4865 Hwy. 131, Clayton, Alabama 36016.

            Born October 7, 1949, in the Edgefield Community, Paul was the son of the late Darrell Dewey and Madeline Scroggins Hartzog.  Paul graduated from Baker Hill School where he excelled at basketball.  He continued his education at Wallace College in Dothan.  Paul’s diverse business career included construction, sales, EMT and management of Alimenta and Golden Peanut Company.  Paul’s real passion and love was for his family and farming.  Paul farmed for over 35 years. 

            Paul is survived by his wife of 50 years: Gwendolyn S. Hartzog; 2 children: Richard M. (Darla) Hartzog of Clayton, Alabama, Melissa H. (Scott) Lawrence of Dothan, Alabama; 3 grandchildren: Bryce Lawrence, Madeline Lawrence and Emmaline Hartzog;  his siblings: Martha H. Hurst, Don (Betty) Hartzog, Dallas (Joann) Hartzog, John Hartzog; many nieces and nephews.

            Pallbearers will be Alan Hartzog, Tim Hartzog, Michael Hartzog, Jack Garrett, Brett Garrett, Jacob Hartzog and Christopher Goff.
