Mary Lou Williams Smith, 72, of Clayton, Georgia, passed away on May 14, 2024, of heart failure in Gainesville, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 1:30 P.M. at Fairview Cemetery Addition in Eufaula, Alabama. Visitation will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 11 A.M. until 12 Noon prior to the service at Chapman Funeral Home in Eufaula, Alabama. The Rev. Stephen Doss officiated with Chapman Funeral Home directing.
Mary was born in Eufaula, Alabama, to James Richard Williams, Jr. and Barbara Pressley Williams. She graduated from Eufaula High School and attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where she pledged Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She was talented in the field of accounting and several Atlanta, Georgia companies put their trust in her to handle their corporate finances, including the international Nokia Corporation where she served as Treasurer.
In her later years, she enjoyed living in the north Georgia mountains where she worked at Rabun County Hospital several years and then at the Dillard House where she performed group sales and accounting services for many years until her retirement in 2023.
Mary was a devoted and loving mother to her children as well as a kind and generous aunt to her nieces and nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her grandparents.
She is survived by her two grieving children: Megan Smith and Andrew Smith (Lindsey). Her first grandchild, Everett Smith, is due to be born in June 2024. Mourning her passing are her sisters Barbara Freer and Doris Fowler, brother-in-law Robert Fowler and her brother Jim Williams and sister-in-law Rosie Oakley. Also grieving are her nieces and nephew Ashley Freer, Allison Herman and Jay Williams.
