Martha Hatley Roberts, 95 years of age, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
Martha was born April 19, 1929, in Albertville, Alabama, to Thomas Marion and Escal Burns Hatley. She graduated from Eufaula High School in 1947 and began working for the South Central Bell company as an operator. Her first marriage ended in divorce. She married Earl Roberts in 1959, and their sons Marty and David were born in 1960 and 1962. After their marriage, Martha left the telephone company and worked with Earl at their photography studio until his death in 1994. Martha was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Eufaula and had many close friendships in her Sunday School class and other church groups. She loved playing cards and dominoes, cooking and traveling. For the past ten years, she lived at Capstone Village on the campus of the University of Alabama and made many friends during her time there.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her sisters, Carolyn Waters and Marian Molnar. Survivors include her sons: Marty Roberts (Renn Rhodes) and David (Christina) Roberts; two grandchildren: Tyler (Anna) Roberts and J.T. (Allison) Roberts; and 6 great grandchildren.
A memorial service be held at 2 P.M., Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Chapman Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ken Bush officiating and Chapman Funeral Home directing. The visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 P.M. until 2 P.M., at the funeral home.
