Margaret Bernice “Bobbi” Smoot, 81, of Eufaula, Alabama, died Sunday, November 23, 2025, at her home after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. Born May 3, 1944, in Bainbridge, Georgia, Bobbi was the daughter of the late Emmett Ennis and Margaret Emma Grimsley.
In addition to her love for her Savior Jesus Christ, the centerpiece of her life was her fifty-four year marriage to Joseph William Smoot. Together they raised two sons and provided shelter, support, guidance, and encouragement for numerous family members and friends. Bobbi was a devoted and loving wife, and she dutifully supported Joe as his career took them throughout Alabama, Mississippi, West Virginia, and Florida. In each of those places Bobbi established lasting friendships and blessed the lives of many with her abundant generosity, genuine compassion, and her amazing gift to share God’s love. Bobbi was a voracious reader, and she accumulated a large collection of books. She had a tender heart for animals and the family had numerous pets through the years.
Bobbi was preceded in death by her husband, Joe. She is survived by her two sons: Allen (Laura) Smoot and Richard (Teresa) Smoot; her granddaughter Laura (Mark) Detealhauser; her great granddaughter Skylar Copenhaver; and her sister Denise (Marion) Widdon.
A visitation will be held Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 10 A.M. at Cross Baptist Church. The service will follow at 11 A.M. with Rev. Jim Hill officiating and Chapman Funeral Home directing.
