Gerald Anderson, Jr. Obituary

Gerald V. Anderson, Jr. (Jerry), 87, passed away on November 9, 2025 at his home in Eufaula, Alabama, leaving behind a lifetime of laughter, love, and speeding tickets that will be legendary for generations to come.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 11 A.M., CST, in New Park Cemetery in Fort Gaines, Georgia with Dr. William Oliver officiating with Chapman Funeral Home directing..  The visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. CST, at the funeral home.

Jerry was born on May 30, 1938 in Vincennes, Indiana, the son of the late Merry Cargill Anderson, Gerald Von Anderson, Sr. and Muriel Mobley Anderson. From an early age, he had a knack for turning ordinary days into adventures. That sense of adventure set the tone for a life that never slowed down - literally. He pursued his lifelong passion for racing and fast cars from the moment he turned 16 and received his driver’s license… only to have it suspended the same day.

In 1948, the Anderson family relocated to Owensboro, Kentucky, the place Jerry always considered his hometown. After graduating from Castle Heights Military School in 1956, he attended North Carolina State University, then began working with his father, Von, starting what would become a lifelong dedication to the construction industry.

In 1959, Jerry relocated to Fort Gaines, Georgia after his father spotted an advertisement seeking concrete specialists for the construction of Walter F. George Reservoir and Dam. Two years later, in 1961, Jerry was a founding partner in Anderson Construction Company of Fort Gaines (ACCO), a legacy that continues today under the leadership of the fourth generation of Andersons.

Throughout his career, Jerry was a devoted servant to the construction industry, and to the Associated General Contractors (AGC) organization. He served on the Board of Directors for AGC Georgia for more than three decades and was appointed the Chapter President in 1993. He later served as Treasurer of AGC of America in and spent 15 years an Elected Governor on the AGC of America Board of Governors.

In recognition of his lifetime of dedication and service, Jerry received the SIR Lifetime Achievement Award from AGC Georgia in 2002, the organization’s highest honor, awarded for exemplifying the core values of skill, integrity, and responsibility.

In 1980, Jerry relocated to Eufaula, Alabama, where he resided for the remainder of his life with his wife Sally Godfrey Anderson.

Alongside his dedication to his work, Jerry filled his life with the pursuits and pastimes that brought him joy.  He was a proud member of MENSA International, the largest and oldest high-IQ society. Never one to do anything halfway, he bought and restored a 1957 Ford firetruck, outfitting it with a full kitchen and custom logo reading “The Fun Department.”

He loved attending NASCAR races with his family and friends, especially since it gave him the chance to test how fast he could drive his 40-foot motorhome. A long-suffering fan of the Atlanta Falcons, Jerry held season tickets for twenty years before he finally decided he’d suffered enough. His loyalty, however, never wavered when it came to the Kentucky Wildcats, particularly during basketball season.

For more than thirty years, Jerry hosted an annual holiday barbecue for all employees, proudly serving as head chef, delighting everyone with his famous Bar-B-Que and boiled peanuts. Whether behind the grill or behind the wheel, he had a gift for turning the ordinary into something worth remembering.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sally Godfrey Anderson of Eufaula, Alabama; his children, Trey (Cindy) Anderson, David Anderson, Jana (Billy) Lindsey, all of Fort Gaines; and Evelyn Goff and Mack (Caroline) Goff of Eufaula.

He was a proud grandfather to his seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sisters, Gay (Frank) Wright of Birmingham; Joy Anderson Brown of Bogart, Georgia; Kevin (Tom) Baxley of Atlanta; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends who will cherish his memory.  He was preceded in death by his brothers, Chuck Anderson and D. Mickey Anderson.
