Gary Reagan New passed away on April 6, 2026, at the age of 84, surrounded by his loving family after a 2 year courageous and hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer.
The son of the late John William and Jo Mable “Jody” New, Gary graduated from high school st Pepperell Air Force Base High School in St. Johns Newfoundland in 1960. He attended college at Wake Forest where he earned a degree in chemistry. He would go on to start his own chemical company and he also earned his pilots license during that time. He eventually sold the company and earned his law degree from Jones School of Law of Faulkner University and practiced law until he retired. Gary greatly enjoyed spending time with his family, taking road trips and playing golf. He spent a couple of days a week, following his retirement, playing golf until he was physically no longer able to play, but continued to visit the golf course to visit with his golf buddies. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of family and friends. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his son Eric New and his sister Susan Beasley. Gary leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 22 years, Amie New; his son, Robbie (Anna) New; bonus sons, Zack (Jessica) Crozier, Seth (Hayley) Crozier; and bonus daughter, Areal (Zac) Yarbrough; granddaughters, Elizabeth New, Annabelle New, Lacy New, Erica New, Hadley Crozier and Reagan Yarbrough; grandsons, Finn Crozier, Griff Crozier, Kaison Yarbrough and Weston Yarbrough. Gary had many friends but, he had some very special friends who checked in with him faithfully, Bill Tucker, Harold and Barbara Currie and John Robertson, who would put all work aside when Gary came by to visit with them.
Respecting his wishes, no services will be held. We would like to thank Gentiva Hospice for the care and support they provided during this difficult journey, especially Bailey, Lauren, Ellen, Pam and Buford, and to Dr. Jesse Haggerty who provided care until the end. Not only was he his doctor but he was also a true friend.
