Cathy (Spires) Dykes

Cathy Spires Dykes, 73, of Eufaula, Alabama, died Thursday, January 29, 2026, at her home.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 2 P.M., in Fairview Cemetery Addition.  The eulogy will be given by Cathy Taylor, her lifelong friend, with Chapman Funeral Home directing.  

Born April 12, 1952 in Tuskegee, Alabama, Cathy was the daughter of the late Hubert Green and Sarah Louise Glover Spires, Sr.   Cathy was educated in the Eufaula City School System and was a 1970 graduate of Eufaula High School.  She worked for Alabama Power Company in Montgomery after graduating.  Cathy returned to Eufaula where she worked at Admiral Moorer Middle School, The Lakeside School and later as bookkeeper at Jac's Tire and Auto.  She was very creative and loved working with flowers, creating wreaths and all arts and crafts.  She was a dedicated Alabama football fan.  Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, her infant brother, Hubert Greene Spires, Jr. and her brother, Hubert Larry Spires.

Survivors include her daughter: Brittni Dykes Butler (Britt) of Columbus, Georgia; her son: James Anthony "Jad" Dykes, Jr. of Phenix City, Alabama; her sister: Grace McMahan (Benny) of Tyler Texas; the light of Cathy's life, her grandson: Brantley Butler.  Special to Cathy is her niece: Mechele Fail and her nephews, Eric Salinas and Michael Fail.  She is also survived by a number of cousins and a host of dear friends.
