Betty Sue Bulger

Betty Sue Blocker Bulger, 91, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, March 22, 2026.

            Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 11 A.M., at Cross Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Hill and Rev. Jeff Hines officiating.  Burial will follow at 4 P.M., in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery, 1545 Stanley Ave., Andalusia, Alabama with Chapman Funeral Home directing. The visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 A.M. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to missions at Cross Baptist Church 33 Early St., Eufaula, Alabama 36027.

            Born January 4, 1935, in Covington County, Alabama, Mrs. Bulger was the daughter of the late Henry Jessie and Bunah Alma Musgrove Blocker. Betty’s father was a railroad engineer and the family lived in a section house until they moved to Libertyville near Andalusia.  She married Lee Roy Bulger when she was eighteen and they moved to California where he was stationed for four years in the United States Navy for the Pacific Islands.  They were in California for four years and had their first two children, Robert Dale Bulger and Wanda Gail Bulger.  Patricia Lynn Bulger was born in 1961 in Andalusia, Alabama.  In 1963 Lee Roy graduated from the Alabama State Trooper Academy and his first and only assignment as an Alabama State Trooper and Radio Operator was Eufaula, Alabama.  Betty and her family have lived and worked in Eufaula since 1963.  She attended Calvary Baptist Church in Edgewood and is now currently a member at Cross Baptist Church.  Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Lee Roy Bulger and two brothers, Bearl Blocker and Earl Blocker.  She was a devoted wife for over 50 years and a loving mother and grandmother.  Betty is loved by her family and her kindness will be truly missed.

            Survivors include her 3 children: Robert Dale Bulger (Karen), Wanda Gail Bulger and Patricia Lynn Bulger Thornsburry; 4 grandchildren: Brian Thornsburry (Kyla), Jon Browning (Desaray), Steven Browning (Holly), Katy Kerr Weaver (Casey); 7 great grandchildren: Ansley, Kendra, Haley, Bella, Landon, John Luke, Josiah; 1 great great granddaughter: Ayla.

            She leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness and generosity.  She will be remembered for her love of her family and friends and more importantly unwavering love for her Savior and Lord Jesus.  She cherished her friendship and fellowship with the Ladies prayer group at Calvary Baptist Church.

            Active pallbearers will be Brian Thornsburry, Steven Browning, Jon Browning, Jimmy King, Tyler King and Sam Williams.
