Bette Jean Harney, 89, of Eufaula, Alabama, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Medical Center Barbour in Eufaula.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 1:30 P.M., in Fairview Cemetery Addition with Rev. Matt Avera officiating and Chapman Funeral Home directing. The visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 A.M. until 12 Noon at Chapman Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Born February 7, 1936 in Newville, Alabama, Mrs. Harney was the daughter of the late Floyd Lee and Eleanor Estelle Lisenby Beamon and was the younger sister of Louise Bland (nee Beamon). Bette spent part of her childhood in the community of Capps in Henry County, Alabama until the second grade when her family moved to Eufaula. After graduating from Eufaula High School in 1954, Bette traveled the world with her first husband, SFC Otis Clark, as he served in the United States Army. She and Otis had two children, Greg and Jeff Clark. After the death of Otis, Bette returned to Eufaula with her two boys. She earned an associate degree from Wallace Community College Sparks Campus. Bette was an active member of her community. She was a founding member of the Eufaula Little Theater. At different periods over the course of her life, she was also a devoted member of the Washington Street United Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church and the First United Methodist Church of Eufaula. Bette enjoyed a successful career at Mead Coated Board, where she served as a Receptionist for more than two decades. Many employees, visitors and those who called the plant have remarked about Bette's pleasantly distinctive voice, how she welcomed them and made them feel warm. After retirement, Bette moved to Panama City Beach for 12 years, where she was a member of Gulfview United Methodist Church. Bette was preceded in death by her husbands, Otis Clark and Edward Leo Harney Jr., her son Jeff Clark and her grandson Cameron Clark.
Survivors include 1 son: Greg Clark; 2 grandchildren: Chris (Daniella) Clark and Justin (Erin) Clark; 3 great grandchildren: Kelan Clark, Kayleigh Clark and Kane Clark; 1 sister: Louise Bland.
